Objectives

practical: to teach students to characterize the sights of London, to develop four language skills of students.
bringing-up: to teach students to summarise obtained information.
Type of the lesson: summarizing lesson on the subject aimed at the improvement of language skills.
Equipment: the pictures of London sights; quotation of Samuel Johnson about London; cards; the record of the text "London".

Procedure

1.Introduction
T: Do you like travelling? What city of the world would you like to visit? Why? OK. I hope one day your dreams will come true. And today we are going to travel to London, one of the largest and most beautiful cities of the world and "see" its sights.
Answer the questions, please:
1. The capital of what country is London?
2. Are there many sights in it?
3. What are they?
4. There are a lot of pictures on the backboard. What do they show?

Speaking
1) Now I am going to give you the descriptions of places of interest in London. You must guess what these places are.
2) Look at the pictures and tell what places of interest you can see in them.
3) Group Work
     Look at the pictures again and ask each other questions on them. (A student from group asks a student from group 2 and vice versa)

Pre-reading activity
T: There is one more place of interest which hasn't been mentioned yet. It's Windsor Castle. It is not in London, but not far from it.
    First let's pronounce some world and expressions correctly:
        Windsor Castle, Queen, royal home, badly damaged, ancestors, buried, St. George Chapel

T: We have spoken much about London and its places of interest. But London is a very large city and of course there must be not only pluses but minuses too.
What do you think?
Is everything OK or there are the so called "city problems"? (Pupils' answers).
Now we are going to listen to the text and learn what these problems are.

Post-listening activity.
Say if the following statements true or false are:
