Theme: We Have no Other Planet

Objectives:
  • to activate lexical materials on the topic;
  • to develop students’ language skills;
  • to develop the skills of listening, reading and writing;
  • to develop critical thinking and their imagination;
  • to teach students how to look after the environment and save our planet.

Equipment: a laptop, textbooks, topical pictures

Procedure
I. Introduction
  1. Greeting
T: Good morning, children. I am glad to see you. You look wonderful today. How are you? 
I suggest you watching the video (відеофрагмент “Human impact on the environment”). 
What emotions did you have while watching? What is this video about?
Today we’ll speak about environment. We’ll try to decide what we can do to protect the environment.

II. Brainstorming
T: What associations come to mind when you hear the word “environment”?



T: Let’s read what some wise people said. Then say what the quotation mean.
  1. “Nature is not a place to visit, it is home.” (Gary Snyder)
  2. “The activist is not the man who says the river is dirty. 
    The activist is the man who cleans up the river.” (Rosss Perot)
  3. It is not enough to understand the natural world; the point is to defend and preserve it.”

Open your textbooks on page 150 and read about The Three Rs.
While-listening activity
Now I want you to listen to the song and write down:
Group 1  what we can reduce.
Group 2  what we can reuse.
Group 3  what we can recycle.
Now we shall have a short rest. You’ll answer my questions to have the key word on our topic.

IV. Summarizing
Hometask: Write a letter to Green Peace with suggestions on the environmental protection.
So we have talked about ecological problems today. If we want to help out palnet to survive 
we must be active participants in the protection of the environment.
But remember! The most dangerous pollution is the pollution of the soul. Keep your souls clean! 
And the world will be better place to live because we have no other planet.
